Professional Development for Educators ​

CRI Counter Terrorism Training School is listed by the Nevada Department of Education as an approved online continuing-education provider. This approved 80-minute course provides Nevada-licensed educators with 1.33 professional-development hours that may be applied toward the 90 clock hours required for individual license renewal.

CRI is also approved by the Nevada Commission on Postsecondary Education.

​Active shooter incidents, workplace violence, terrorism, and other acts of targeted violence can develop quickly and with little warning. Understanding how to recognize danger, make better decisions, and respond appropriately during a critical incident can improve personal preparedness and situational awareness.

Active Shooter, Workplace Violence & Terrorism Attack Defense is a practical safety and preparedness program designed to help individuals better understand the challenges associated with violent emergencies and learn response concepts that may help protect themselves and others.

The course was created by Doron Benbenisty, a former Israeli Special Forces professional and counter-terrorism instructor with extensive experience in security, personal protection, defensive tactics, and emergency preparedness. The program incorporates lessons and concepts drawn from professional security training and real-world experience, including perspectives developed in Israel, where public safety organizations have dealt with terrorism and security threats for decades.

Rather than relying only on theory, this course examines realistic situations and teaches students how to think, prepare, recognize warning signs, evaluate available options, and respond more effectively when confronted with a dangerous situation.

Students will explore preparedness and response concepts for a variety of environments, including schools, workplaces, vehicles, public locations, and other everyday settings.

The course includes the following training modules:

1. Active Shooter Response Experiment – Examine how people react during a simulated active shooter incident and identify important lessons about awareness, decision-making, and preparedness.

2. Classroom Defense for Students – Learn safety considerations and response options students should understand during a violent emergency at school.

3. Classroom Defense for Teachers – Explore preparedness, classroom security considerations, communication, student protection, and emergency response responsibilities.

4. Knife Attack Defense – Understand important principles associated with recognizing, avoiding, escaping, and responding to an edged-weapon threat.

5. Handgun Attack Defense – Examine emergency response considerations when confronted with an armed assailant and learn the importance of avoidance, distance, cover, escape, and decision-making.

6. Improvised First Aid – Learn basic concepts for providing immediate assistance when conventional medical supplies may not be readily available.

7. Belt Defense Concepts – Explore how commonly available objects may be considered as emergency defensive or protective tools when escape is not immediately possible.

8. Vehicle Attack Defense – Learn awareness and response considerations related to vehicle-based threats and attacks.

9. Defense in Public Places – Examine preparedness strategies for restaurants, shopping centers, entertainment venues, offices, and other public environments.

10. Explosive Threat Awareness – Learn basic awareness, recognition, evacuation, and safety considerations associated with suspicious objects and explosive-related emergencies.

11. Workplace Violence Defense – Understand warning signs, prevention considerations, situational awareness, emergency planning, and response options for workplace violence incidents.

Throughout the program, the emphasis is on awareness, prevention, preparedness, decision-making, escape when possible, protection of others when appropriate, and responsible emergency response.

No training program can guarantee personal safety or predict every emergency. Circumstances vary, and students should always follow applicable laws, organizational policies, emergency procedures, and instructions from law enforcement and public-safety authorities.

The goal of this course is simple: help you become more aware, better prepared, and more capable of making informed decisions during a critical incident.
